Hyland Levin Shapiro is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark D. Shapiro as Co-Managing Partner of the firm, alongside current Managing Partner Benjamin A. Levin. Ben and Mark, together with three other partners, founded the firm in 2009, with Ben serving as Managing Partner and Mark playing a key leadership role from the outset. Mark has simultaneously built a robust real estate and franchise law practice and earned the trust of many longstanding clients as a valued advisor. Mark’s elevation to Co-Managing Partner reflects a transition to the next generation at Hyland Levin Shapiro, continuing to focus on client service, long-term sustainability, and the development of elite legal talent.
“I have been steeped in exceptional law firm management through Ben’s outstanding leadership. We began working together in 1995, and I have closely witnessed his management skills successfully applied at three different law firms. I will build on Ben’s management style and successes and am also excited about stamping my own imprint on our firm while working with our immensely talented lawyers and staff,” said Shapiro.
The firm also announces the appointment of Lauren A. Beetle as Administrative and Personnel Partner. Lauren has also been with the firm since its inception and, in recent years, has managed multiple administrative functions, including policy development and personnel management, while also maintaining a busy real estate and corporate transactional practice. She has particular experience with multifamily properties and representing real estate investors and business owners in financing transactions, including Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae debt, and asset-based lending.
Reflecting on the transition, Ben said, “I have been managing law firms, both large and small, for forty years. My basic philosophy has not changed: Work with outstanding partners who are highly regarded in their field and in the community, are hardworking because they love what they do, and are terrific colleagues. I have been privileged to work with such partners during these years, including Bill Hyland, Rich Hluchan, and Harvey Shapiro. Mark and Lauren are exceptional individuals and lawyers. I am proud, grateful, and relieved(!) to be transitioning many facets of firm management to these two deserving leaders of the firm.”
In conjunction with the leadership transition, Susan Patterson has been hired as Firm Administrator. Susan is an experienced law firm manager with a passion for providing efficient and effective support. She has previously served as the Philadelphia Office Manager of an Am Law 200 firm and as Firm Administrator for a mid-sized Philadelphia-based law firm. Susan has a proven track record of managing all aspects of office operations, including talent management, billing, strategic planning, and marketing.
“We are excited to add someone with Susan’s experience and professional depth to our team. We look forward to further optimizing efficiency for our clients and supporting the professional development of our staff and attorneys,” said Lauren Beetle.
