Since 1981, Bestwork Industries for the Blind has dedicated its mission to engaging, empowering, and employing people who are blind and visually impaired. What began as a small state contract workshop has since grown into a self-sustaining manufacturing facility and full-service social enterprise. By prioritizing recruitment and training, the organization works to combat high unemployment rates within the visually impaired community, providing its employees with economic independence, valuable skills, and a profound sense of pride.

This year’s unique fundraiser was hosted at Adventure Aquarium in Camden, offering attendees an unforgettable and perspective-shifting experience. During the entrée portion of the dinner, guests were blindfolded to experience a meal without sight. To guide them through the challenge, each table was assisted by a visually impaired “Table Captain.” These captains shared essential tips and practical tricks for navigating the plate and successfully getting food to mouth without incident—a task that proved to be no easy feat for the participants. Through its interactive event, Bestwork successfully highlighted both the daily challenges faced by the visually impaired community and the incredible resilience, skill, and leadership of its team members.
