Peter J. Boyer, a partner with the firm, is a commercial litigator and trial lawyer. For over 30 years he has handled matters in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate level and in arbitration and mediation proceedings.
Peter represents businesses and individuals in litigation arising out of business and commercial transactions, including real estate development; leasing and title issues; employment issues; business torts; claims arising out of franchise relationships; statutory claims under federal and state RICO, consumer fraud and franchise protection statutes; claims relating to dissolution of partnerships and business entities; restrictive covenants and the protection of trade secrets and confidential business information and intellectual property, among others.
In addition to representing parties in litigation, Peter provides pre-litigation counseling to parties seeking to initiate or avoid litigation. He applies a business-oriented approach to the handling of litigation matters with the goal of achieving the client's business objectives.
Admitted to practice in state and federal courts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Peter is also a member of the bar of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is committee Vice Chair of the ABA Litigation Section's Business Torts Litigation Committee, and a former co-editor of the ABA Business Torts Journal. Peter was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve on the District IV Ethics Committee and served as Chair of that Committee. He also served as a member of the Professional Guidance Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association. In 2010, he was elected to membership in the American Law Institute. He received the "AV" peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Peter is actively involved in civic and professional activities and associations. A long time supporter of the arts, Peter is currently President of the Board of Singing City. He is a former Co-chair of Corporate Partners for the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia and served as a member of the Mann's Board of Directors.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (B.A. 1972) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. 1977), Peter was an editor of the American Criminal Law Review.
Peter regularly writes and lectures on topics relating to his litigation practice. He has spoken at conferences and continuing legal education seminars on the protection of trade secrets and confidential business information, the enforcement of post employment restraints on competition, electronic discovery practices and ethics and professional responsibility.
Outside of work, Peter's interests include tennis, skiing, choral singing, opera and cheering for Philadelphia sports teams.
